TITLE:      Health Educator LSTI 


This position is responsible for developing and conducting Emergency Medical Service (EMS) and/or American Hospital Association (AHA) courses at the Life Support Training Institute (LSTI) consistent with established Local, State and Federal guidelines.  This position develops and implements lesson plans for a variety of specific courses as defined by all appropriate regulatory agencies and is responsible for documenting and validating successful student course completion and recommending remedial action as necessary to support individual and program goals.   Plans, organizes and evaluates program effectiveness to enhance the quality of educational programming.  Assumes a leadership role in promoting adherence to corporate policies, procedures and regulations and providing professional educational student activities.



  1. Provides educational instruction in assigned subjects inclusive of reading, writing, basic math skills, emergency medical services, CPR and others.
  2. Conducts student assessment and testing, educational/vocational goal setting and provides options counseling.
  3. Identifies and provides appropriate educational instruction, measures student educational improvements through pre/post educational testing as defined by the Michigan Department of Community Health and the Michigan Proprietary School Unit’s standards.
  4. On a weekly basis, monitors attendance, documents absences, contacts students to offer assistance and encourage program retention.
  5. Develops and conducts activities necessary to retain all assigned students.
  6. Develops and submits all learning documentation and progress forms to include lesson plans, student portfolios, homework/testing results, etc.), in accordance with directed/established timeline requirements.
  7. Prepares, completes and submits all required student-related activities and documentation such as evaluations, attendance, tracking and information, informal assessments, in accordance with directed/established timeline requirements.
  8. Identifies and notifies Lead Faculty and/or Director of all support services students may need. Documents referrals.
  9. Notifies Lead Faculty and/or Director of all students placed on academic or administrative probation or who have dropped or have been terminated from a course. Provides appropriate documentation within established timeline requirements.
  10. Monitors and ensures adequate supplies of instructor/student books and materials, and requisitions inventory as necessary.
  11. Conducts and participates in public relations activities to include distribution of brochures, posting flyers, community group presentation, etc., for the purpose of enhancing pubic awareness of LSTI educational services and generate referrals.
  12. Regularly participates in meetings, seminars, workshops, staff development training activities and the like.

  6. Supports, cooperates with and demonstrates safe work practices and attitudes, follows safety rules – including universal precautions - reports and prevents/corrects unsafe conditions and behaviors, and participates in organizational and departmental safety programs.
  7. Completes all required compliance standards that may be department specific and/or identified by the organization.
  8. Maintains current licensure, registration and/or certification, as applicable, at all times.

  1. Education / Training: Requires a minimum of a High School Diploma or GED. Higher-level educational coursework, Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Business or other related field is preferred.
  2. Work Experience: Requires a minimum of three year’s field experience as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) at the level required for Instructor Coordinator licensure. Previous experience in EMS and/or AHA instruction is preferred.
  3. Contacts and Communications: Must be socially sensitive and have well-established interpersonal skills to remain objective and cooperative in interacting with individuals with varied backgrounds, skills and abilities.  Requires the ability to effectively present information to a wide audience.  Requires the ability to communicate effectively with faculty, management and community groups.
  4. Analytical Demands: The job requires ability review, assess and coordinate appropriate educational instructional materials to meet student needs.  Requires the ability to identify and intervene as appropriate to assure student engagement and retention, identify and recommend corrective action to problems.
  5. Computer Skills: Basic keyboarding and demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office software (word, excel, etc.), is required.
  6. Certification, Licensure, Registration: Requires a current State of Michigan Instructor Coordinator license and/or AHA instructor certification.  Requires a valid and unrestricted Michigan driver’s license.
  7. Other Qualifications: Requires the ability to report to work on time and prepared to provide professional educational activities.  Requires the ability to work a flexible scheduling including off-shift hours, weekends, and other as assigned.




  1. Physical Effort: The job requires prolonged periods of sitting and standing while preparing and presenting educational instruction. Occasional heavy lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling supplies, boxes and set up of presentation equipment.   
  2. Work Environment: Work is primarily performed indoors in a variety of settings inclusive of retail, schools and classrooms, offices and manufacturing/warehouse locations, etc.  May work extended hours, off-shift hours and weekends.  Requires regular travel to Botsford Health Care facilities and throughout the community to support educational instruction, marketing events, meetings and other activities as required.
  3. Equipment Used:  Audio visual equipment, medical equipment associated with program instruction, telephone, personal computer, printer, fax.
