In conjunction with the Michigan Department of Community Health (MCDH) with support from the Oakland County Medical Control Authority (OCMCA), CEMS and Botsford will participate in an exclusive test study unlike any of its kind. 

The future of healthcare is here as we bring back the house-call! Advanced practice clinicians will be trained to perform with state of the art diagnostic tools and communicate their findings to a live physician in a virtual clinic setting. Through physician orders for advanced medications and/or clinical procedures, the clinician will treat illnesses and conditions on-scene thus alleviating the need for transport to the Emergency Department.

General Summary:  Under general supervision, and in accordance with MDCH and Telemedicine Physician Director policy, procedure and protocol, performs specific tasks required for the effective and efficient care of patients in a health care setting and/or private residence. Exhibits courteous and professional behavior while interacting with co-workers, patients, families, health care professionals, and public safety personnel. Promotes and maintains a smooth working relationship between management and employees. Operates and maintains company equipment in a safe and professional manner. While actual responsibilities may vary, the following are typical of the duties that would be performed.



  1. Performs duties in compliance with all state / federal rules, regulations and guidelines consistent with license or certification as appropriate. 
  2. Provides treatment to sick and/or injured patients of appropriate medical facilities and/or private residences under the direction of a Telemedicine Physician Director. 
  3. Actively participates in the safe delivery of patient care and maintains a safe environment for all patients. 
  4.  Responds professionally and promptly to instructions from a variety of sources, such as, physician medical directors, allied health personnel, dispatchers and supervisors.
  5. Maintains confidentiality of all patients, employees, corporate records, and patient records in accordance with current HIPAA guidelines.
  6. Safely operates and assists in the maintenance of company owned vehicles as required.
  7. Performs daily vehicle maintenance check and cleans both the inside and outside of assigned company vehicle as needed.
  8. Replenishes medical equipment and supplies as needed.
  9. Monitors and properly operates all communications equipment to ensure efficient, constant, and appropriate contact with the Telemedicine Physician Director and communications department.
  10. Responds to all requests for service in an optimal manner and the priority of response when directed by the dispatcher / referral source.
  11. Works expediently to ensure availability of resources in order to maximize utilization and productivity.
  12. Demonstrates flexibility as patient needs change and the ability to communicate the need for additional assistance when necessary.
  13. Assesses the nature and extent of patients’ injuries or illness and establish treatment consistent with state licensure and appropriate protocols.   
  14. Produces accurate, legible, and complete documentation of all pertinent medical records as needed.
  15. Administers medical treatment in a caring and compassionate manner thus promoting positive public relations for CEMS and Botsford Mobile Health.
  16. Is receptive to Telemedicine Physician Director’s judgment regarding treatment of patients and follows their judgment.
  17. Be able to communicate all pertinent patient information to medical personnel directly involved with patient care in compliance with local, state and federal protocols and in accordance with Michigan Department of Community Health and HIPAA Guidelines.
  18. Abide by CEMS current Bloodborne Pathogen Plan and follow universal precautions as needed.
  19. May assist in various duties including but not limited to:
               Protecting valuables
               Assisting medical personnel in emergencies at medical facilities by initiating BLS    procedures as defined by the Michigan Department of Community Health and under the direction of a physician.
  20. Exhibits excellent customer service skills and behaviors toward internal and external customers and co-workers.
  21. Adheres to department customer service and performance standards.
  22. Demonstrates personal commitment to the Organization’s core values through active involvement in the performance improvement process.
  23. Demonstrates safe work practices and attitudes, follows safety rules, works to prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors, and participates in organizational and departmental safety programs.
  24. Carries out other duties as assigned.
  25. Perform all advanced practice paramedic procedures required during treatment of Telemedicine related patients including, but not limited to, medication administration, venipuncture / phlebotomy, blood / urine / body fluid specimen collection, wound care, bladder catheterization via foley catheter and removal, limited radiologic testing procedures,  point of care specimen testing, lab value review and evaluation, reporting of patient assessment and diagnostic testing results to Telemedicine Physician Director or designee, and other skill sets as deemed necessary by the Telemedicine Physician Director.


Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Required:

Minimum Education:  Must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent.  Where applicable and as required must maintain Continuing Education per the local Medical Control Authorities and the Michigan Department of Community Health.  Associate and/or Baccalaureate Degree in a health related field preferred.

Minimum Work Experience:  Minimum of one year of experience as an EMT-P required.  One year additional experience working in a hospital or health care environment as a licensed health care provider preferred.

Contact With Others:  Co-workers, clients, patients and families, medical personnel.  Must be able to write, read and speak English fluently and appropriately.

Analytical Demands:  Must be able to possess critical thinking skills consistent with assessment and evaluation of ill / injured patients.

Certification, Licensure, Registration:  Current licensure as an EMT-P in good standing by the Michigan Department of Community Health through the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs. Must possess a current BLS certification and ACLS certification concurrently. Must possess a valid Driver's License and be eligible for driving privileges based on current CEMS policies and procedures.


Working Conditions:

Physical Effort:  Physical demands including lifting, climbing, pushing, stooping, bending, kneeling and crouching, and otherwise maneuvering heavy patients, with stretchers and equipment (at least 250 pounds).  Must pass a pre-employment lift test.

 Work Environment:  Typically works indoors. Exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue.

Equipment Used:  Depending on Telemedicine Physician direction, oxygen administration equipment, hemodynamic monitoring equipment, ECG equipment, IV fluids and administration equipment, stretchers, medications and med administration equipment, body fluid specimen collection and analysis equipment, foley catheters, X-ray testing equipment, wound care equipment, etc.
